Ode to SET IT Off, Girl’s Trip reunited us with Queen and Jada!
It is time to Set It Off, Set It Off, Jada Pickett!” Lyrics from Over by #DRAKE. Shoutout to Drake for #HAW weekend in Houston, Texas. https://youtu.be/2lTB1pIg1y0
I am still on a natural high from taking the time to enjoy this new chick flick Girl’s Trip with #LoveWorkRePeat www.loveworkrepeat.com on opening weekend! The cast alone had me ready to go see the movie after the first trailer. Then noticing Will Packer and Malcolm Lee was associated with it, I knew it would be a winner! Will Packer and Malcolm Lee have notable well executed movies like: The Best Man, Roll Bounce, and my favorite movie Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins staring Martin Lawrence for Malcolm Lee. Will Packer has produced another one of my favs This Christmas, and Ride Along to name a few. Well their latest collaboration Girl’s Trip took me on a ride to a land of friendship, camaraderie, and self-love that is the cornerstone of the Essence Music Festival! This movie took place at an Essence Music Festival weekend in New Orleans which is unequivocally a self love celebration for women of color every year in New Orleans during July 4th weekend. I felt like I was on a rollercoaster of love and self worth that oozed from the screen. It engaged the audience with relatable characters and a superb storyline. It was one of those movies that you did not want to end! Oh and did I mention Queen Latifah and Jada Set It Off! There was a scene in the club when all the ladies Regina Hall, Queen Latifah, Jada Pickett-Smith, and Tiffany Haddish put on wigs as a non-factor disguise which immediately reminded me of the the scene in Set It Off where the cast wore a similar bob style wig and dark shades which lacked a disguising factor for the characters as well right before they robbed a bank over 20 years ago! In Girl’s Trip the scene started with the four of them standing looking into the club and Regina and Tiffany went onto the dance floor which left Jada and Queen to give an epic ode as they looked at each other and proceeded to Set It Off 2017 on the dance floor! Too think Queen and Jada were young bucks fresh on doing movies and now seasoned vets that showed their range, leadership and depth in the characters on Girl’s Trip.  Also, they brought a new comer Tiffany Haddish and really let her shine, that’s what big sisters do! I walked away from this movie happy that I drove through the rain and traffic to converge at the movies with my sisters to celebrate sisterhood with our sisters on the big screen! C. I’ve watched Girls Trip and it was really funny. It does have some similarities with the classic film, Set it Of. However, I think that Girls Trip has their own positive and unique sides. I would personally give Girls Trip a score of 7.5 out of 10 as a comedy film. It’s really funny and I would personally suggest it to those who are into the genre.
